On Thursday 7th May 2015, the National
Newspaper ran the head line; Eat more Garden Food.
Papua New Guinean should eat more healthy garden
food, according to the National capital District Governor Hon. Powes Parkop.
“Food sustains the wellbeing and development of our
body. Food is a conduit to the transmission of disease if we are not careful
with its preparation and use” Governor
for the National Capital District; Hon. Powes Parkop said during World Health
Day celebration in Port Moresby on the 27th April 2015.
The Governor said many people were suffering from
food-borne disease because of chemicals, bacteria, virus infection and
individual lifestyle and encourages people to change some of their eating
habits and practices to avoid contracting disease and to live a good and
healthy life.
Papua New Guinea is richly blessed with fresh
fruits, vegetables, root crops such as yam, sweet potatoes, taro, cassava and Papua New Guineans are encouraged to eat what they plant and get from
their garden and forest.
